 The Urban Climate Change Resilience in Southeast Asia Partnership (UCRSEA) invites graduate students to apply for funding to carry out field or desk-based research related to urbanization and climate change resilience in Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and/or Lao PDR. Preference will be given to applicants who apply to do research in one or more of the project’s secondary cities of focus: Koh Kong and Battambang, Cambodia; Dawei and Bago, Myanmar; Khon Kaen and Mukdahan, Thailand; and Lao Cai and Ninh Binh, Vietnam.

 The UCRSEA partnership addresses vulnerabilities to climate change in urbanizing areas of Southeast Asia with the goal of enhancing resilience and, hence, economic and social well-being. The project is a collaboration between academics in Canada and partners located in Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. Initiating partners include the Thailand Environmental Institute Foundation (TEI), the University of Toronto and York University.

 Who is eligible to apply

 To be eligible, you must meet all of the following requirements:

Be a graduate student (master’s or PhD level) enrolled at a tertiary institution in Canada OR a citizen of Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam or Lao PDR and enrolled at a tertiary institution in one of these countries.

* Khmer Language and Culture Study Program Summer in Phnom Penh, Cambodia

June 20 – July 29, 2016

The CKS Khmer Language and Culture Study Program provides an opportunity for faculty, post-graduate researchers and undergraduates from U.S. universities to participate in an intensive six-week study abroad program, between June 20 – July 29, 2016, in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. This ongoing program is administered in collaboration with the University of Hawai’i, Manoa’s Khmer Language Program (ASK). This CKS program is designed for those who wish to develop Khmer language skills and understanding of contemporary Cambodian society for academic and professional purposes, but who have not completed two years of formal language training. Beginners are welcome to apply. The program is therefore intended to complement the Advanced Study in Khmer (ASK) program and is structured along similar lines. CKS can cover tuition fees and some program costs such as local travel and fieldtrips for up to eight eligible participants.

Eligible individuals include:Citizens, nationals or permanent residents of the United States.Heritage (Khmer-American) or non-heritage learners.Those working or studying full time in social sciences, humanities, foreign languages, and area studies.

Tuition and Administration charges are $3,400 per participant (a $3000 tuition & administration fee and a $400 program fee). CKS can cover tuition fees and some program costs such as local travel and fieldtrips for up to eight eligible participants.
